MAY 1994 NEWSLETTER
Report on Swedish Research of Amelia MOWER line Please remember that Ms. PERSSON's English is not the best, but it makes a fun letter to read:
Gothenburg, Sweden February 10, 1994 "Dearest Jerry; I wish you and your family all the best for the new year. In spite of a hard financial year for Sweden as for most of Europe, I find myself surprised to find more beginner on my class lists than ever before. Genealogy is truly popular.
"I am pleased to hear about your Salt Lake City trip, it brings back good memories from my own trip there. It is incredible how beautiful their premises are. However, I found that there is quite a lack of information on the Scandinavian sector. You can only get so far in their archives. The whole library is an outstanding acknowledgment to my field, and I am pleased you are so closed to Salt Lake.
"If I understand your letter right, you would like me to extend your family tree by adding siblings, cousins and their spouses. You would like me to broaden your family tree from your ancestor who left to America and back. This is a 'horse's job' of course, I would love to help you, Jerry.
"You need to kindly to give me some time, during this spring to get started. I need to inform you however, that the rental fees of the fisches have been substantially raised, from $1 to $5 to rent, per fische, per time. I guess it is to prevent people who are not dedicated, or those who fail to return their loans, these are valuable sources for all of us genealogist.
"I included the family tree/history, now you can pinpoint from the map I already sent you, where your ancestors lived and what churches they attended. Kindly read this new information which I hope you will enjoy as much as I did and when I wrote a 'horse's job' please know I referre to the endless but fun task of broaden your family tree further.
Jerry, I hope that you recognize that research is my far stronger field. Much stronger than my will to ask for payment. I have spent an ample amount of time finding your family, my trip to your families' villages and churches, and to get it all written out. I see it necessary to ask you for about $25 per hour, including the fischer rentals, promising to spend your hours wisely. If you would like me to go on, kindly send me a check of $250 and I will be on my way to extend your family further.
"We are all longing for spring, this is a very dark and cold season. We have had times of great amount of snow, which lighten up our country, but right now it is dark, barren and about 29 degrees Fahrenheit.
"Enjoy your hours on horseback, horses are long gone in my life. All my best wishes to your whole family. Best Regards, Ingegard"
Those who descend from Amelia (Anderson) MOWER are invited to contribute to this research. Please designate this on your check and it will be used for this purpose. The MC ARTHURS and RASMUSSENS are generally funding this at the present, but could use the help of others related to this MOWER line. All other funds received go to the Austrian GEISSINGER research extraction, to which all of us are related, (being done by Trudy SCHENK).
BRILL UPDATE Joanne BAKER, of Hagerstown, Maryland called me recently to say thanks for the mention in our NL about her book, The Brill Families of America. She reported that seven of you have purchased this book which is a very good history of the BRILLS. I have about completed placing the entire book on computer and I have found that her information has been invaluable! She has literally given us hundreds of individuals, families and marriages on the BRILL line.
Added to the many hundreds of names and families I had already researched of which she has virtually none included in her book--- these of the Christopher BRILL line, we now have combined the largest, most complete history of the BRILL family in existence! It is absolutely incredible the amount of information we have compiled between her records and mine. I will make a submission of the entire BRILL file to the Ancestral File of the Church so that this genealogy will be preserved forever. It will of course be distributed in branch family history libraries all around the world for any BRILL relative to view, correct, or contribute additional information. I am certain many corrections are needed, but it is a start!
If you are a descendant of Mary AMICK this is your direct ancestral line. If you are not a descendant of the AMICK line, you are never-the-less related to the BRILL line. All of the people in our BRILL file are descendants of Martin BRILL, father of Christopher BRILL--- who married Anna Margaret MAURER, daughter of our Michael MAURER.
REPORT ON THE HALL RESEARCH Mary Jane HALL of Mayodan, North Carolina recently answered an querie I placed in a North Carolina Historical Society publication regarding the Harrison HALL line. She has and sent evidence to prove that the father of Harrison HALL was John HALL. She also has research material on about 40 different John HALLs--- this will be great news for that branch of the family researching the HALL line. Some of her evidence indicates the HALLs may have come from Glouchester Co., Virginia and attended the Episcopal Church, Abbingdon Parish. The records for this parish are in the county courthouse in Glouchester Co. They are microfilmed and at Salt Lake. These are great clues for extending that pedigree. Faye HALL, our relative who lives in Winston/Salem, N.C. will meet with Mary Jane HALL. How fortunate to have a relative so close to such an important source of information.
TRUDY SCHENK UPDATE I recently spent some time at the FHL in Salt Lake and visited extensively with Trudy regarding the research. She is up to the 1890 records extracting GISINGER names of Vorarlberg, Austria. She will likely finish this spring. She wants to follow some of the references made in the Goetzis records of GISINGERs who lived in nearby towns. More records of Vorarlberg, Austria have been microfilmed and are available at the library.
Trudy reports she is going to Germany in late April 1994 and I told her we could not fund her trip to Vorarlberg. We wanted to spend the money getting names extracted. She said that she was going to go to Goetzis whether we paid her or not because she is so involved in these names she wants to see the place and at least take pictures of the area. She understands we don't want to fund that, but she wants to do that for us. What a wonderful lady. I really appreciate her kindness. I will make available to anyone the pictures she takes of Goetzis, so you can add pictures to your family history records of the birthplace and area of Charles GEISSINGER's birth.
As I wrap up the BRILL submissions and plunge into the Goetzis records to make submissions the only thing I wish I had were a few more hours per day. This has been a great experience for me. I receive several genealogy letters each day from around the country and from you folks. It is unbelievable how many people around the country are tying into our line since I made a submission to the Ancestral File of our work.
I am turning Trudy loose (after the Austrian records are searched) to look for the origins of Michael MAURER. I would not be surprised to find that the BRILL family is located in the general area of the MAURER family in Germany. My guess is that they originate from the Palatinate area of Germany. This research should start by the fall.
