RESEARCH REPORTS FROM TRUDY SCHENK:

To: jmower@cyberhighway.net Date: Fri, 27 Dec 1996 From: Trudy Schenk <tschenk@sisna.com> Organization: Trudy Schenk Research

Dear Jerry, While doing research near the city of Darmstadt, I came across the parish Gross Gerau wherein I found the name Kolb in a very early time period. Some of the husbands are bakers and I think there could be a connection to your earliest Johannes Kolb.

There is one Michael Kolb, a baker, he is only recorded once with the chr. of a child. This could be his last child in 1674. I extracted all Kolbs before 1700 and checked some neighboring villages also in particular the parish records of Graefenhausen, yet there were no Kolb entries. The last known Johannes direct line names a son Michael and a daughter Appollonia.

Among the Kolb families in Gross Gerau is a Nicklaus, also a baker, listed as coming from Mannheim. I will now look into the early Mannheim church records in hopes I can make a connection.

This is an area not far from Meckesheim. The main road leads from Switzerland on through Mannheim towards Darmstadt. Journeymen traveled this way as they looked for jobs. Millers and bakers were journeymen and could easily have traveled this route.

I am sending the hand-written sheets by mail. Hope you and your family have a Happy New Year! Sincerely yours, Trudy Schenk.

Dear Jerry, I have now exhausted all possible records on the Maurer research in the parish Doettingen and Orlach. The Doettingen church records show a gap of 10 years from 1595 - 1605 in the chr. because of thus it is impossible to make a connection to the earliest Maurer now always spelled Meurer.

Before 1595 I found only one Maurer entry, a chr, of a child Hans on 5 Apr 1568. He could easily be the father of the earliest Michael we have at this point. The earliest Orlach parish records begin in 1595, there seem to be some entries of people from Jungholzhausen there. One Michel Meurer has 2 children chr. in 1607 and 1608, yet he disappears from Orlach. I found no marriage nor deaths there of any Meurers.

Andreas Abelin from Orlach had 7 children chr. in Orlach beginning in 1613 yet his marriage was in 1605. Barbara who married Michael Maurer should have been born ca. 1610 since her first marriage was in 1632. I had an inclination to check Braunsbach and found Andress Abelin there with the chr. of some children before 1613. He must have lived there after he got married. I was able to create another generation from the marriages and the deaths. There is nothing more that can be done on these lines. This closes the Maurer research.

KOLB: I searched the Mannheim parishes and its suburbs and found no Kolb entries. Perhaps the Michael who had a child chr. in Gross Gerau only lived in Mannheim for a little while. I also checked the nearby towns Sandhausen, Ladenburg, Feudenheim, Kaefertal, Wallstadt, Ilvesheim and Seckenheim. In the Ladenburg parish records I found one Kolb and one Gerich family, both lived in Neckarhausen. The extracted information is in the packet I sent off on Friday. I will not search on the Kolb line again, if I come across the name in the vicinity of Meckesheim I will extract the information. Sincerely yours, Trudy
