Dear Jerry,
I went to the Family History Center and couldn't find a film regarding the Lutheran Church where Rachel's records are.
I did order a couple of films regarding Perry County. If I find anything I'll let you know.
I found Warren Nixon, who I corresponded with years ago. He had moved as his wife died. I sent him a copy of the Guisinger info you sent to me.
Sincerely,
Kathy
RINGS TRUE:
Dear ----, I have spent several years looking for family information and have, as of this week, decided that I am a descendent of the family branch called UNKNOWNS.
I find kazillions with the names of my branches but my branches don't seem to attach to any trees in the known world. Therefore, I have concluded that there are three ways in which the UNKNOWNS originated:
1. We were sent to the colonies by the British government in the 1700's to spy. We so excelled in the art of blending in with the flora and fauna that no one knew we were here...even the British lost contact with us.
2. We were dropped off here by one of the space ships that some think visited our planet. Again, we were outstanding in the ability to blend in and so were never noticed. Somewhere down the line someone forgot to tell us that we are from another planet. I think the space ships some people report seeing and being captured by, are our true family and they are looking for us to take us home.
3. Immaculate conception...which explains itself.
4. I really don't exist. I am but a figment of someone's imagination but I don't know who that someone is.
I am very frustrated as you can tell. Do you have a section in this area for us UNKNOWNs to apply to families for adoption so that we can attach our tiny branch buds and belong to some tree... any tree? Written by: Mary Ann Bartlett
YOU KNOW YOU'RE AN ADDICTED GENEALOGIST
...when you brake for libraries.
...if you get locked in a library overnight and you never even notice.
...when you hyperventilate at the sight of an old cemetery.
...if you'd rather browse in a cemetery than a shopping mall.
...when you think every home should have a microfilm reader.
...if you'd rather read census schedules than a good book.
...when you know every town clerk in your state by name.
...if town clerks lock the doors when they see you coming.
...when you're more interested in what happened in 1697 than 1997.
...if you store your clothes under the bed and your closet is carefully stacked with notebooks and journals.
...when Stewart, Taylor, and Rose are household names, but you can't remember what you call your dog. (in our case, Brill, Geissinger, Maurer)
...if you can pinpoint Harrietsham, Hawkhurst, and Kent on a map of England, but can't locate Topeka, Kansas.
...when all your correspondence begins, "Dear Cousin,"
...if you've traced every one of your ancestral lines back to Adam and Eve, have it all fully documented, and still don't want to quit.

Dear Friends and Supporters: As I write this newsletter on the last day of September I am mindful of Trudy Schenk who, at this writing, is researching in the archives of various German dusty places looking for our Martin Brill. I know that many of you have her in your prayers. Please remember we are fasting in that regard for October.
I don't know where this month has gone. I am presently working 2 jobs with the idea in mind that I have 3 sons going on missions in the next 4 years and you will have a hard time reaching me by phone. I am going to start sending this newsletter every-other month if we do not warrant 4 pages of material each month.
For those of you reading it on the internet, we will post it monthly, but mailing it out requires at least 4 pages per month and until we receive more information on research, we will occasionally miss a month.
I have written this newsletter now for 8 years, every month, and have enjoyed it very much. As I look back on old newsletters I see how much we have learned. We certainly have made a lot of progress on various lines. I know we have yet, much to do.
I have submitted all of the Brill names relating to descendants of Martin Brill. That file is currently being finished up as you attend the Jordan River and Idaho Falls Temples. We have quite a few of the Geissinger line yet to submit and we are working on that line. If your temple needs names let me know. We anticipate many Brill names from Trudy Schenk in Germany to be placed on computer this fall.
I hope we can continue to clean up the files we have collected and there are many descendants of Michael Maurer I believe that yet need to be submitted. Enough for several years of work. We need to remember we are not in the business of collecting names, but of doing the work of our kindred dead. As a result of that I have not actively researched now for several years. I have found hundreds of new names and relatives, but that is through the internet, and not at the family history library. I will not be going back to research until we start running out of names, then I will return. To do otherwise would not be responsible or kind to our kindred dead who patiently wait for the work to be done. If you would all kindly remember this work each day, we will make progress. I have no doubt that we will be led to the records we need, when the time is appropriate, and when we have demonstrated that we have done all we can do. JM
