Subject: Mary Mower of Philadelphia

Hello Mowers!
When I received John BENDER's Revolutionary War records, I discovered an affadavit by his sister, Mary MOWER of Philadelphia. She was b. ca 1764 to Frederick and Pollyanna BENDER. The affadavit does not give Mary's husband's name. This is really all I know about Mary. I realize that your MOWERs were of a later time, but I wondered if you have received any information that might pertain to this family? I have begun to check your past newsletters and files, but you have an incredible amount of information and this is a daunting task.

Thank you for your consideration. Priscilla

Here are two e-mails of interest to Mower family members who tie into the Blackham family of England. Val Keight is a distant relative living in England who shares Blackham ancestors.

Hi Jerry, thanks for your letter l would love to have a copy of the Blackhams data. l am not sure if the Mormon library would be able to convert it for me as all they have with the computer there is the discs of the IGI and the ancestral register, but l would love to have a try.

Last night l did an exam on computerized book keeping l should know in a week or two if l have passed. l find it hard to understand, because l do all the company books by hand and it is not easy not being able to see if you have done it right on the computer.

We are coming into Spring here, the flowers are starting to bloom, although the weather is colder, we were promised snow last week, but our area missed it, some areas had very heavy falls, we were lucky. They say there is more snow for this weekend so we will just have to wait and see. Val

Dear Jerry, thank you so much for the file, I have down loaded it and I will book an appointment at the local Mormons office for the school half term. Thank you so much I am very excited to look at it. While in the Birmingham library I did find a passenger list and found a W. Stott listed three times, it is an American book and I have done some research for a family in Sans Fran and he is hopefully going to try to trace the book for me, otherwise I will try and order it found out local book shop.

My husband has has his family tree right back to the 15th century given to him this very week, I cant believe I have been trying for six years to trace mine and he is just given his, but he has missed out on the fun and excitement of finding just one little bit of information.

We are going to South Africa in a few weeks for a two week holiday, I am not too keen on hols, but this is my treat to my husband for his 60th birthday. I did offer to treat him to a bungy jump over the Victoria Falls, I just cannot understand why he has refused !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did a terrible thing two weeks ago, I shut the dog's tail in the fire door at work, and it chopped the very tip off his tail, he has just had a second operation on it, I feel so guilty.

Love to you all and I hope you and all the family are well. Val

Hi Jerry - I checked in the temple today for the new disk because my family will be here soon to do baptisms, etc. We still have several endowments now and will proceed with these. Since we're not getting any more newsletters - any news?

Also, don't forget Portland and Oakland. I sent you a big bulk of finished cards? Hope you received it oh.

Would it be better to send the disk to me - 545 South Valley View Drive - #56 St George, Utah 84770 1-435-6560158? Thanks for all you do.

Subject: Mowry family in MD/PA/OH

Hi, I found your very interesting web site through a search engine. I am researching a Mowry family that I "believe" is of German origin rather than part of the New England Mowrys. (We have searched the published genealogies with no luck.) I am hoping you have some information about my Mowry family somewhere in your files.

Henry Mowry b.1770, Maryland --d.1852, Wayne County, Ohio m. Charlotte Magdalena Jyers b.1787, "in or near Baltimore" --d.1877, Wayne County, Ohio children: Magdalena, Charles, Henry, Sarah Ann, Julianna, and James

This family was in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania around 1830 and had moved to Wayne County, Ohio by 1850 (probably earlier). One of the sons of Henry Mowry is listed as Mower in the 1850 census, I realize that it could be just a mistake. But maybe not.

Any information would be a help. Thanks for your time and attention. --Elaine Mowry EDMowry@aol.com

Subject: Michael MAURER

Dear Jerry,

I found your messages on the COLP archives. I descend from Michael MAURER, born about 1750/60 of Dauphin Co., PA (later Westmoreland Co., PA). He married Maria SCHMIDT (information from the following baptismal record): BIRTH: John T. Humphrey, comp., "Pennsylvania Births Lebanon County, 1714-1800," (Washington, DC: Humphrey Publications, 1996); Family History Library; 974.819 K2h.
Information from Birth Record: Page 146. Eva MAURER, born 26 Oct 1795, daughter of Michael and Maria (SCHMIDT) MAURER. From records of Bethel Moravian Church 1745-.

Do you know anything of this Michael? He had sons: Conrad and Benjamin.

Thank you in advance for your return reply.

Sincerely,
Natalie Cottrill

Subject: congrats

I continue to be impressed by your fine, extensive work, and the sums youi pay for professional research when some beginners won't let loose of $20 to pay for research.

The Internet has put me in touch with some interesting people, one of whom has Maeurer relatatives west of Frankenthal in the Palatinate of Germany. This is where I think my christian maurer ancestor may have come from. The IGI certainly shows "ein Haufe" (a whole bunch) of Maurers and Mauerers and Meurers and Maeuers in the Grosskarlbach and Kleinkarlbach area, which is near Frankenthal on the Rhine River plain, west of the river. Flat land, probably the settlement place of many Swiss Maurers after the Thirty Yrs. War. Keep up the good work.

We are working on Brill and Maurer lines at the present. Names have been sent to Oakland, Los Angeles, Jordan River, Salt Lake. We are getting to the point where more research is necessary. We thank all who send letters, encouragement, funds for research, disks, etc. We are making a difference. Please encourage those who no longer receive printed newsletter to view them on the internet, or if you are viewing this, print it off and mail it to those who would like it. Thanks, Jerry
