Subject: SALT LAKE CITY - JAN, 1999
Hello, Jerry -
It's been a while since I've sent a note. I'm being "swamped" with info on our 8 family lines that Ladd and I are working with [8 great-grandparent lines], and haven't been able to get out from under the stack of paper to get it all input into my programs. Hopefully this will be the year for sending several of these databases to SLC as well as to World Family Tree, and also Genserv.
We made a trip to the Gentech98 Convention in Ft. Wayne, IN in January and stayed a few extra days for research at the Ft. Wayne Library. In June our plans are to go into Ohio, IN, and WI and research for two sides of Ladd's family groups.
Just today I had enough information to make reservations for a trip to SLC to the Gentech99 Convention which will be held at the Hilton Convention Center, I believe. However, I made our reservations at the Best Western right beside the Library. Our plans are to go early enough to research a few days before the convention. Perhaps you'll be able to take in part of that convention also. If so, it would be great to see you. I'm wondering if January weather is severe in SLC, but the combination of the Convention and Library should bring in people.
I appreciate the work you have done and are doing on the Mower pages. I check them each month to see what's happening.
Sincerely,
Jean Ladd

Subject: Names for the Portland Temple
Thank you so much for allowing us to do family names in the Portland Temple. We've completed all of the females. Would you please send us more names both male and female.
We haven't been receiving the monthly newsletter. Somehow, we got off the mailing list. I think that you may have a web page and since we are on-line it was decided not to mail us a hardcopy and we could just log on to the web site. If that is the case....Great! However, we need to know how to log on. Please let us know. We feel very out of touch with our family. It's amazing how important that letter is.
With Love and Thankfulness,

Subject: BRILL Family
Jerry,
My son Michael and his wife Lisa gave me my first grandchild, see www.eacc.com/eacc/duke
Lisa's great-grandmother is still living and when I asked for family lines she said her grandmother (Lisa's G(3)-grandmother) was Elizabeth BRILL, wife of Baxter LaFolette. I estimate Elizabeth was born in the 1860's ?? The only BRILL's I have are those I got from you many years ago, but they only come up to the early 1800's.
I am wondering if (hoping) you may have done more research on the BRILL family.

Jerry - thank you for your reply. To the best of my knowledge, the Mower portion of my ancestry is either German or Dutch, but we don't have a record going back to Europe. I believe the earliest Mower record we have is of a Coonrad Mower, born in Schuyler, NY in 1791. It sounds like it is not the Michael Maurer line, however, if you know of any of Michael Maurer's decendents who wandered off towards upstate NY in the mid to late 1700's, it is possible that it is the same lineage. So, I guess I am interested in seeing the lineage of Michael Maurer. Thanks again for your help!

Jerry - I found your web site, on a general search for "Mower" (not lawn). My name is Amy Van Kampen, maiden name Amy Mower.
My father, Philip Mower, & I have done a bit of geneology research on our line, and can trace it, 7 generations, I think, back to a Simon Mower (don't have dates handy at the moment). My father's family all reside in upstate New York in the Mohawk Valley.
Dear Amy:
We stem from Germany. Our name in Germany and for the first generation in America was MAURER. Later, when the family moved to Maryland and then western Pennsylvania, the name was spelled a variety of ways, but by 1830 was written as MOWER. Michael MAURER was the first of our ancestors to come to America in 1734 from Germany. You probably have origins from the English MOWER family which settled in New England? I could send you a history of Michael MAURER if you are interested.
Thanks,
Jerry Mower

I've attached a .ged family file for Coonrad - it might include more than you were looking for (Coonrad & all decendents), because I haven't had enough experience with the program to know how to easily pare it down from there. I created the file from Family Tree Maker Deluxe, for Windows. Let me know if the format is unreadable. Hope it is helpful.
Thanks very much for the information!

That would be great. Would you like me to send you what I have on the Mowers of upstate NY? (There are a lot of us...)
Send me a family group sheet of Coonrad and family group sheets for his children and their families. That would be enough for me to study for a bit. Attached is a ged.com file entitled mow.ged which is a file starting with my 2nd Great Grandfather, Henry Mower Jr. born 1824 in Bedford, Pa. It goes from him to Henry Mower Sr., his father and to Andrew Mower, his father and to Johann Michael MAURER the immigrant ancestor and his lineage in Germany. Write if you have questions.
Thanks, Jerry

Dear Jerry, The day before I receaved you mail I had sent another Email to the pastor in Germany. I told him I would like him to tell me if I can come and search in his parish. Since he must be very bussy I do not want to burden him with more work. I have waited all week for an answer from him so I would know how to plan my next research trip. This trip will only be for you and I would stay about 2 weeks. I did inquire at the travel office about the end of June. There are no specials during the summer months but this does not concern me I just want to get this work done. If I do not hear from him within the coming week, I will call him. It is possible that he is on a vacation because of the pentecost holiday weekend in Germany. I pray he will give me permission to search. I will keep in touch.

Dear Jerry,
I finally received an anwser from Pastor Kaponia. He tells me now that the church records for this area have been microfilmed and are located in the city of Darmstadt. To this point, no one has heard of this at the family history library. I have now written a letter to this archive in Darmstadt to confirm this is true and asking for the hours that they're open to do research. My plan for the end of June is still on.
Sincerely,
Trudy Schenk
