This makes my son and his wife about 8th cousins, a few generations removed. Jerry MOWER gave me all the data I have on the early generations of the BRILL and AMICK families and I am a descendant of Christopher BRILL.

You mentioned a book by Ray BRILL and Joanne BAKER in 1993. What is the title of this book and do you know where I could purchase a copy? Would it be possible to obtain a GEDCOM of the ancestral line of Bessie LAFOLLETTE or possibly a GEDCOM of your records on the descendants of Martin BRILL and his children.

Jim,

I am afraid the names you give don't fit with the data I have. I am taking the liberty of forwarding this email to Jerry MOWER who has done some research on the MEARKLE family. It is possible you have already had contact with him.

I'm sure there were more Markle lines than the ones I've been following, but one of those John Adam Marckall of Frederick County Md, had descendants go through, live, and marry in Huntingdon County, PA while most moved on to OH and IN.

As I recall the male children of John Adam were Gabriel, Ephriam, and Adam two of whom m Dickensheets sisters and ....anyway, if you think this works for you, I have one line to the present through Gabriel who moved to Madison Co, OH and the others stop about 1900. They intermarried with many early families, one of the more prominent that comes to mind is Studebaker. I have very little more on Adam and Ephriam Their sisters: Hester m __?__ Moore, Hanna m a (Jacob?) Smith of Huntingdon Co, PA, Margaret m Henry Yerjins (Jergins?) and Judida m Michael Squires.

Anyway, if you wish to pursue this, I'll try to determine which if any m in Bedford County and see what we can come up with. Don't worry about the Mearkle, I've found at least 120 variant spellings and that was one among them.

Janet,

Regarding your query in the Bedford Co., PA, forum, in data previously received from Jerry MOWER, I have a Peter MEARKLE, wife unknown, two children: Susanna, b. abt 1801, m. Benjamin SHAW; and David, b. abt 1810, m. Mary SHAFFER. Peter's father was b. abt 1745, so it your Barbara MARKLE was an older child of Peter's, then the time frame would be right.

I don't do direct research in this family, Jerry might have additional information.

Jerry,

I got a copy of subject book by Ray B. BRILL and Joanne BAKER. I believe Susan BRILL mentioned that they got a lot of this data from you. Do you have a copy of the book and what is your opinion of it. Looks like it has a lot of data in it, but little mention of the sources of the data. It does connect my son and his wife as about 8th cousins, give or take a generation.

It is thanks to your Newsletter that Susan BRILL got in touch with me.

I am a Kiesecker, Keesecker, Keysacker descendant & just began to do some research a couple of months ago. I was thinking about giving up because it takes so much time & I have only a couple of hours a week to do this. But tonight when I came upon your family history, it got me really enthused again. I thoroughly enjoyed reading some of your family history even tho I am not related to you. I hope one day to have as much info about my family as you have about yours.
Thanks for making it available to read.

George,

I am a distant member of the AMICK family and pick up data on the family when it is available, but do not active research it. By CC: I am forwarding your email to Jerry MOWER who does do a lot research on the AMICK family. Of the AMICK records in my files, none have the name Matilda, nor do I have a Joseph BRANT.

Does your BOWSER family come from the Bedford Co., PA, area. I am not connected to that family, but have 54 records with that surname.

Hi,
I am new to this list. I have been informed that the families my great great grandparents may have originally come from Somerset Co. and gone to Westmoreland Co. Their names were Joseph and Matilda (AMICK) BRANT. I have traced them to Ligonier in the mid1800s. Joseph was born either in 1814 or 1824 and Matilda was born in 1831. I have no information on Matilda or her family and am especially interested in tracking them down.
Is anyone researching this family?
