Dear Jerry, The goal of this research session was to discover the origins of Susanna Hansdotter who was born about 1736 to Carin Thomasdotter. Research started with an extended search for Carin Thomasdotter's death in Lindesberg between 1780 and 1790. While it was not located, the death of Susanna's son, Petter Lung was discovered in 1783 and copied.

Since Susanna's birth was not listed in Ljusnarsberg or Lindesberg, I began a search in the surrounding parishes for her birth between 1734 and 1738. With Ljusnarsberg and Lindesberg lying on the border of Örebro, this search included parishes in Kopparberg and Västmanland. All available births in the top two-thirds of Örebro, the western third of Västmanland, and the southwestern corner of Kopparberg were covered. The birth of a Susanna Hansdotter was discovered on May 14, 1738 to Hans Classon in Gunnilbo, Västmanland. Gunnilbo Clerical Surveys, however, indicate that Hans's wife was Margreta Persdotter and so cannot be a match for your Susanna. A Susanna Hansdotter was born 21 August 1734 in Arboga, Västmanland to Hans Croms, but since she was still living in her father's household in the 1753-1775 clerical survey, she cannot be the correct Susanna. Your Susanna was in Lindesberg by 1749.

With no good match found for Susanna's birth, the research turned to Ljusnarsberg records for Carin Thomasdotter. I had previously searched for her birth in this parish from 1698 to 1703. This search was extended to cover from 1690 to 1717 to allow a reasonable birth date for a woman who had a child in about 1736. During this search I also extracted any child born to a Thomas to help develop the families. I also search the parish deaths from 1705 to 1740 to eliminate any of the Carin's from the birth records. Adding to what was found to the information from the previous research session, three possible Carin Thomasdotter's were found.

1. Karin Thomasdotter was born May 11, 1705 in Nybyggin, Ljusnarsberg to Thomas Andersson and his wife Karin. Thomas was born about 1660 and died April 17, 1738 in Nybyggin. Thomas was also the father of Johan, born 1693; Anders, born 1697; and Erich, born 1701. His daughter Karin was no longer listed with the family in 1730 to 1747 clerical survey. 2. Karin Thomasdotter was born April 12, 1713 in Ronberget Ljusnarsbergto Thomas Erssons and his wife Marta. Thomas was also the father of Erich, born 1703; John born 1706; and Pehr, born 1716. Karin died December 6 1738 eliminating her as a possible match for the mother of Susanna. 3. Karin Thomas dotter of Stor Kumblan and Lilla Smeberg was the daughter of Thomas Tomsson and Kirsten. Karen married during the 1722-? Clerical survey, but no record of her birth has been found in this parish. Thomas was also the father of Maria, born 1704; Pehr, born 1701; Pehr, born 1712; Anna, born 1713; Kerstin, born 1715; Hindrick; and Tomas.

I searched the Ljusnarsberg marriages from 1715 to 1745 but did not find any Karin Thomasdotter. I expanded the search to surrounding parishes, including Lindesberg, Fellingsbro, Ramsberg, Nasby, Ervall, Nora, Jarnboas, Hjulsojo, Hallefors, Grangarde and Norrbarke. The only possible match found was Karin Thomesdotter who married Olof Nilsson in Fellingsbro on August 8, 1731. Fellingsbro borders Lindesberg on the east. I searched the Fellingsbro births from 1700-1711, but did not locate a birth for this Karin. I also searched the Fellingsbro clerical surveys of 1728 to 1731 and 1736 in Taje and Nederby, the residences shown on the marriage, but did not find Karin or Olof. This may well be the Karin from number 1 or 3 listed above, but more information is needed to be certain. We can search the entire clerical survey or the birth records beginning in 1732 for any of their children. Though this is likely not your Karin Thomasdotter, if we can positively identify her as number 1 or 3 from above it would eliminate one of the women and help us to know on which family we should focus.

I do not think at this point that we will locate the birth record of Susanna. We can continue to research the two Karin Thomasdotter's in Ljusnarsberg through the clerical surveys and surrounding parish records, or we can research another line.
