Dear Jerry,

During the last research session a marriage was found for a Karin Thomasdotter of Nederby to Olof Nilsson of Taje in 1731 in Fellingsbro, Orebro, Sweden. Research began with the Fellingsbro births for any children of Olof Nilsson from 1732 to 1740 to learn more about this Karin. Compiling this with a search of the Fellingsbro deaths from 1731 to 1746 and the clerical surveys of 1736 and 1746 to 1755, I found the following Olof Nilsson's:

Nederby- children Anna born 15 Jan. 1732; Nils born 21 Mar. 1736 and died 13 Feb. 1737; Karen born 3 Apr. 1738, mother Maria Andersdotter, and died 17 Nov. 1738; Catharina born 7 Nov. 1739, mother Maria Andersdotter; Anders died 5 June 1735; and unnamed child died 1 June 1744. The 1736 survey shows two Olof Nilsson's in Nederby -- one who was married to Maria and one who died 4 October 1737 and was married to Karin. The wife of Olof Nilsson of Nederby died 21 Feb. 1745, which is likely Karin.

Utangen- son Nils born 25 October 1732.

Byby- daughter Anna born 23 Mar. 1733.

Underbyans- son Anders born 22 June 1734.

Stensta- son Oloff born 8 Sep. 1735.

Oppebyberg- children Lars born 18 Aug. 1736; Catharina born 10 Feb. 1739, mother Karen Larsdotter; and unnamed child died 28 Nov. 1736.

Hokasta- son Nils born 15 Jan. 1737. The 1736 survey shows his wife as Lena and that he was heading to Sallinge.

Sallinge- son Anders born 5 June 1739, mother Lena Olofsdotter, and died 18 Jan. 1741. See Hokasta.

Spanga- unnamed child died 2 Jan. 1735.

Rynninge- wife died 10 May 1737 at the age of 85 years 3 months. Olof died 30 Oct. 1739 at the age of 84. This is much too old.

Vasslingby- Olof died 18 Apr. 1742 at the age of 48. The 1736 survey shows his wife as Ingrid and his children as Johan and Kerstin.

Bergaby- Oloff died 20 Feb. 1745 at the age of 69 ½. The 1736 survey indicates that his wife was Karin.

Alsange- the 1736 survey has his name crossed out, with his wife possibly listed as Karin.

Finakersby- Olof and his wife Karin were listed in the 1736 survey.

It is unfortunate that not all of the births gave the name of the mother, as it made it much harder to trace Karin Thomasdotter. I found nothing additional on the Olof Nilsson of Taje. If the couple moved to Nederby where Karin was living at the time of her marriage, then they were likely too old to be a match for your Karin. At any rate, nothing definitive was established.

Research continued with additional searches for marriages of Karin Thomasdotter between 1715 and 1740 in the areas surrounding Ljusnarsberg and Lindesberg. Please see the enclosed research calendar for a complete listing of these parishes. I located the marriage of a Karin Thomasdotter to Mats Joranson in 1731 in Soderbarke, Kopparberg, Sweden.1 I found this couple in the 1730 to 1752 clerical survey of Soderbarke, which gave Mats's birth as 1698 and Karen's as 1710.2 I searched the parish births for any children and found a daughter Kerstin born in 1732.3 No record was found for the birth of Karen Thomasdotter in this parish from 1709 to 1711. Karen Thomasdotter, wife of Mats Jorsons died in 1734, so she cannot be the mother of Susanna Hansdotter.4

I found the marriage of a Karin Thomasdotter to Nils Andersson in 1715 in By, Kopparberg.5 As both were listed as living in Horndahl, I searched the 1706-1730 clerical survey for Horndahl, By and found a listing for Karin Thomasdotter of Husby.6 The 1710-1729 Husby clerical survey showed Karin, daughter of Thomas Parsons.7 She is listed as going to Horndahl and as deceased. I located her death in By in 1716, also ruling her out as the mother of Susanna.8

Research for Karin Thomasdotter can continue with additional searches in parish registers for her marriage. We can also search further Ljusnarsberg and surrounding parishes's clerical surveys for Karin.

Sincerely,

Susan Glenn, AG
